Multi-Events Wedding Suits for the Groom

So here we go with a tale of the multi-part spectacular that was the lovely Huw Richard’s recent wedding to the equally adorable Elizabeth Paladeau. We thought we’d post about it here on the Watson Ellis blog because we were lucky enough to be asked to create all three of Huw’s custom suits to take him through the three main wedding events.

We’ve done multiple looks for a single wedding in the past, but Huw and Elizabeth’s presented unique challenges and opportunities in that the locations of each event were different, and the styles they were looking for were equally diverse.

Part 1 was a modest nuptials ceremony and dinner in NYC. This was followed by a trip to the gorgeous Amalfi Coast in Italy for a cocktail party and rehearsal dinner on the beach. Finally, to top it all off, an elegant black tie wedding ceremony in a historic Italian villa.

Over the next 3 posts we’ll be taking you through Huw’s looks for these events. First up, we’re in NYC with Huw’s:

Light Grey Wedding Suit (Aka “Dove Grey)

It might also be called a tan wedding suit, or a warm grey. Here are some of the reasons we absolutely loved this look for Huw and Elizabeth’s NYC city hall nuptials:

Grey custom suits exude a sleek and sophisticated vibe. In other words, they are well-suited for a city hall wedding without being too over the top — see the tuxedo in this context, for example of OTT. Grey conveys a sense of formality while still maintaining a modern and stylish look. The lighter color and lighter fabric from Dormuil’s seasonal “Hamptons” collection made it perfect for a hot summer afternoon in NYC, downtown city hall.

Neutral Colors for a Wedding Suit

Grey or tan wedding suits are also neutral enough that they blend seamlessly with the urban environment of New York City. In other words, this look complements the cityscape and adds an element of urban elegance to wedding attire. Urban elegance: that’s the way to describe the grey wedding suit!

There’s also a whole lot of seasonal adaptability to a grey custom suit. They work well in any season. Lighter shades of grey are ideal for spring and summer, while darker shades are suitable for fall and winter weddings. In Huw’s case, this was a summertime affair, and we think the lighter shade of the fabric really complimented that.

The grey also created a fantastic contrast with Elizabeth’s ivory dress, allowing both of them to stand out without their looks being too contrasty or clashy.

The grey suit is also essentially a minimalist approach. To us this felt more appropriate and tasteful in light of the low key setting. Put differently, it allowed Huw to embody understated elegance and avoids unnecessary extravagance.

Lastly, we’d say it was a great choice because of how the photos turned out! Grey suits tend to photograph beautifully due to their balanced tone, capturing the details and textures of the fabric in a flattering way.
