Ideas for Men’s fall Outfits

Watson Ellis original art by Caroline Hill

So we’re looking at you here, fellas. Coming into fall, it’s time we talk about some fall outfits for men. A few ideas, a few notions on how fall outfits differ from those you might wear during the seasons on either side.

First let me say that fall is without question my favorite season on the calendar. That has a lot to do with the fact that it usually means the wardrobe options become nearly endless. They certainly become much more wide-ranging wardrobe than in the summer or winter times. For men specifically, that means not just light weight custom suits, but a more diverse palette spanning from heavier-weight tailored suits, to cashmere sports jackets, to moodier grey or charcoal tailored suits or double breasted blazers.

I’m talking about LAYERING here people

Unlike summer, where light and breathable fabrics dominate, fall allows for creative layering with different textures and materials. Why not a mens double breasted suit, or a lighter outerwear option such as a grey jacket over a herringbone shirt, for example?

Speaking of FABRICS, there’s so much to love about the range and diversity of fall fabrics. From wool to cashmere, leather to denim. Velvet and corduroys! We absolutely adore the velvet from Pontoglio, in northern Italy. It’s the finest quality velvet / corduroy in the world, and we offer extensive options from this mill.

Why not try a look like this one:

We love this mid warm-grey wide stripe fall suiting from Loro Piana's seasonal collection. Try this look with a charcoal sweater or Albini's charcoal Flanella button down shirt. We like a sporty slip on loafer for this style. Maybe with a gum sole?!

Fall COLORS

Fall fashion often features deeper and richer colors, such as burgundy, mustard, olive green, and various shades of brown. These colors reflect the changing foliage and create a cozy, autumnal atmosphere. In other words, why not try a men’s olive suit this year? Or a grey or charcoal textured look like this one:

We see this cozy dark grey textured fall suiting from Loro Piana's seasonal collection in a relaxed low button double breasted jacket with patch pockets and peak lapels, definitely an unconstructed shoulder (no pad) and some more relaxed wider leg trousers. To balance out the look pair it with one of our custom shirts in this crisp light grey business-like stripe from Thomas Mason's Downing collection.

Pairing Separates Blazers and Trousers

Fall also opens up men up to various outerwear options. Of course these can include things like trench coats and leather jackets. But this could also mean stylish, one off men’s custom blazers. For that, we at Watson Ellis have absolutely got you covered with a wide range of premium fall fabrics for making men’s blazers and sports coats.

Check out this look, for example:

Once again, Loro Piana's seasonal collection for the win! This rusty brown twill in a wool/silk is just the right amount of quiet luxury. We like this blazer single breasted with patch pockets and a patch chest pocket too (why not), with soft shoulders and a wide notch lapel. We matched this blazer color with a perfectly complimentary warm grey trouser from Dormeuil's millennial collection, which has natural stretch!

Blazer and Pant Combo $3122.00
